Jet-Mate Antistatic Agents

Jet-Mate SAS93 & Jet-Mate HS 1

Jet-Mate SAS93 is a line of chloride-free yellow pellets with strong water absorption properties formulated for use as an internal antistatic agent for polar plastics. If direct incorporation into the polymer is not possible it can also be applied to the surface of the finished article (by spraying or dipping) by use of a 1 % Jet-Mate SAS93 aqueous solution.

In PS
Jet-Mate SAS93 is used as an antistatic agent in PS in amounts of 2-3 phr. The addition of Jet-Mate SAS93 in amounts of 0.3 phr causes hazing in transparent PS articles.

In ABS
For styrenic co-polymers such as ABS, Jet-Mate HS 1 is added in concentrations of 2-3 phr.

In PVC
Jet-Mate HS 1 is widely used as an internal antistatic agent for plasticized semi-rigid and rigid PVC. Due to Jet-Mate HS 1 causing hazing of transparent polymers in the 1.0 phr to 1.5 phr range, its main applications are in the manufacture of opaque PVC calendered films.

Amounts of Jet-Mate SAS93 should not exceed 0.3 phr in transparent rigid PVC; A combination of 0.3 phr Jet-Mate SAS93 with 1.0 phr Jet-Mate FE 20 has proved successful to maintain transparency.

For plasticized PVC, Jet-Mate SAS93 is used in amounts of 1 – 2 phr; hazing occurs at concentrations higher than 0.3 phr.

In semi-rigid PVC, the antistatic performance of Jet-Mate SAS93 is remarkably good in 1.0-2.0 phr amounts.

For antistatic modification of thick-walled extruded and injection-molded articles made from rigid PVC, direct Jet-Mate SAS93 incorporation is recommended in the amount of 2-3 phr. Alternatively, it can also be applied to the surface of the finished article (by spraying or dipping) in a 1% Jet-Mate SAS93 aqueous solution.

In LDPE
Jet-Mate HS 1 is suitable for antistatic modification of polyolefins, particularly polyethylene (PE-LD). It has proven to improve the flow of the polymer melt during processing and is generally added in amounts of 1-2 phr.

Further Applications
Jet-Mate SAS93 is can be applied as an antistatic agent in engineering plastics such as: TPU,PA,PBT,POM, etc.
Jet-Mate HS 1 can act as an external lubricant in polymers.

Jet-Mate P18:

Characterization
Jet-Mate P18 is a polymeric system based on polyamide / polyether block amides.

Applications
Jet-Mate P18 is recommended, where a permanent antistatic effect is sought, in applications such as electronic and industrial packaging, housings and parts of business machines and plastic supplies for use in clean room conditions. It can be used in thermoplastic polymers, transparent film, fiber or molded applications.

Features/benefits
Permanent, non-migratory antistatic agent. Thermally stable and effective at low humidity (<10 %). Immediately effective after incorporation. Surface resistivity down to 108 W/sq can be achieved, depending on substrate and processing.

Characteristics

Colorless
Transparent
Non sparking
No dust /micro contamination
Permanent
Humidity independent
No migration
Network forming

Benefits

Permits use of color codes
Applicable in films and transparent housing
No grounding required
Suitable for clean room applications
Effect over the useful life of high value applications
Guaranteed effect in critical applications
No content contamination, no printing problems
Immediate effect, no impairment of mechanical properties
Guidelines for use
Jet-Mate P18 recommended use levels are 8 – 25 % (1012 – 109 W/sq). Mainly for engineering plastics, due to relatively high loading levels a pre-compounding step is recommended.

Jet-Mate P18 recommended use levels are 4 – 15 % (1011 – 108 W/sq). Mainly for polyolefins, no pre-compounding step required, however system performance is sensitive to processing conditions (shear, temperature etc.). The use of compatibilizers can support dispersion mainly in large molded articles.
